There are actually three levels to McCloud Falls: lower, middle and upper, each offering different views. Hiking to each of the falls is relatively easy. Each fall is accessible by car and a short walk to the vista point. It's about 3.5 miles roundtrip to see all three falls driving, and there is a path that leads to all three if you are walking.

This trail offers opportunities for swimming in the emerald pools of the river, fishing for brook trout, or picnicking along the rivers edge. While several springs are found along the trail, the water sources have not been tested and may be unsafe to drink. This is a good hike to view brilliant autumn colors! The upper section of this trail is not recommended for horse use due to the narrow tread and rocky creek crossings.…

Funds available under the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act helped purchase this refuge which lies at 4,300 feet elevation at the base of the Warner Mountains. Water is the key to attracting waterfowl in this high desert area. An extensive system of ponds, dikes and control structures allows for flooding and draining of meadow and marsh. Carefully controlled water…

This is certainly not a trip for the faint of heart or the inexperienced. Only experienced parties should consider the undertaking as this can be a particulary treacherous hike. Normally, even the climb of Mt. Shasta is considered to be quite a feat, but the idea of a winter ascent is met with raised eyebrows from those who clearly understand the difficulties posed by an off-season climb.
