The Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association, a not-for-profit organization, was founded by a group of local business leaders in 1927. With a mission of promoting economic development through recreation and tourism in the eight-county region known as the Shasta Cascade (Butte, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity), the Association has developed a variety of strategies to accomplish this goal.
These five strategies, it seems, can best be accomplished at the regional level. For example International marketing needs to have sufficient tourism product to attract potential visitors. In other words one small community is not likely to have the resources nor the attractions to draw visitors from half way around the world.
The five strategies the Association has concentrated on in recent years are as follows:
