Lava Beds National Monument

Caves & Caverns

UpState CA offers caving experiences for every skill level – beginners will enjoy the guided tours at Lake Shasta Cavers National Natural Landmark or the easily accessible Subway Cave. For more experienced cavers, Lava Beds National Monument offers multiple challenging opportunities. (Although with over 20 developed caves, there’s plenty here for beginners too!) Come during the winter months, and you’ll get a chance to explore the Crystal Ice Cave. Though a strenuous excursion, this is one of the most stunning caves in the park.
